IET Lucknow Campus Experience

Known as the “Engineering College” in Awadh ( Lucknow ), the city of kebabs, the top college of Dr A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Institute of Engineering and Technology ( IET ), Lucknow is the place which I can call my second home. In other words, My College and this article, here’s my campus experience.

As I entered the gates of IET, I noticed a green environment around me after walking for 100m, a road leading to 3 directions (tirtha) and a board in which it was mentioned where each road would take you. If you choose the right road, it will lead you to the canteen, academic departments, girls’ hostels, faculty residentials, Hospital/Dispensary and the Navyug Navachar Foundation Incubation Centre. On choosing the middle road, you will lead to the Dean Academics block, Central Library and the parking. The left road will take you to the Old Lecture Theatre, New Lecture Theatre and all the boys’ Hostels.

The central library of IET is a place where students find peace and solace in their studies. It functions under a library team that comprises of Sr. Faculty as overall In charge and deputy In charge along with assistant librarian, cataloguers, library information assistants and Senior assistants. The library is well equipped with textbooks and reference books catering to the needs of UG courses and PG courses. Students can borrow up to three books for fifteen days. Some books (called study room books) are issued after 4 p.m. for one night only and that too only against the I-card. All this, all the year round, without any but three holidays. The Book Bank within the Library provides a facility for, SC/ST students to issue up to six books and general students one book per semester. The library also has a photocopying facility.

The computer centre at IET is equipped with the latest in both hardware and software. The Centre is equipped with multiple laboratories each comprising of the latest configuration Desktop Computers, the laboratories are used for conducting various Experiments and also serve as General Purpose Computer Labs for the institute. The centre is connected to the High-Speed Internet facility of the National Knowledge Network.

There’s a Central Mechanical Workshop that offers first-year students to learn about Mechanical Engineering and its aspects plus the higher year always keeps learning in the workshop. 6 shares comprising Machine, Carpentry, Fitting, Welding, Foundry, and CNC Machine shops for the students, all spread around a large area.

The Hostels at IET were maintained and in good shape. The following are the names of Hostels at IET: Apala Bhawan, Arya Bhatt Hostel, Bhabha Hostel, Dr Kailash Nayaran Upadhyay Hostel, Gargi Bhawan, Maitriya Hostel, Raman Bhawan – A, Raman Bhawan – B, Ramanujan Hostel, RML Hostel, Sarojini Bhawan, Vishveshwarya Bhawan – A, Vishveshwarya Bhawan – B.

The hospital/Dispensary at IET is a well-organized entity catering to students. It provides all medical facilities and medicines regularly to the patients of the Institute during OPD hours.

There’s a bank too at IET. The students have the facility of an on-campus bank, which is well-equipped, assuring instant deposits and withdrawals- saving a lot of precious time for the students. An ATM is also available on the Institute Campus.

The auditorium at IET named (Pandit Ram Prasad Bismil Sabhagar) has a seating capacity for 800 people, with acoustic audio-visual amenities. Other services include video conferencing, digital projection, and Wi-Fi facilities.

There’s an Indoor sports complex also but it is currently under making and hoping will be made as soon as possible for students to play alongside that, we have cricket and football fields, and a lawn tennis court where we all can play.

There are several departments at IET including Applied Science and Humanities, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering including self-finance programs, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Biotechnology and Civil Engineering.

The canteen at IET offers various food items from Parathas to Maggie, or Hot dogs to Macroni alongside cold drinks and more and never to forget CHAI which is always available.

My campus experience till now has covered not all but some of the main sights at IET and hope after reading this, you all will get some idea about the college.
