IET Lucknow Campus Experience

After cracking JEE and securing admission into IET Lucknow via UPTAC counselling, I was thrilled to be a part of one of Uttar Pradesh’s top state colleges. I got into the Mechanical Engineering branch, and the best part about it is that the placement opportunities here aren’t restricted to the CSE branch alone.

The first day of my college life on October 1st, 2023, is still etched in my memory. I entered the campus along with my school friend, who also gained admission to the same college. Being a Lucknow native, I’m a day scholar, which has its perks and disadvantages, which I’ll discuss later in this blog. Upon entering the college, I immediately headed to the canteen, which, for some reason, resembled a dhaba. However, it offers delectable recipes, with my personal favourite being aloo bun and sweet curd.

The college entrance features a large roundabout and a guide with a map indicating the locations of various buildings, such as the academic block, boys’ hostel, girls’ hostel, auditorium, and sports complex. It’s a lush green campus with plenty of trees and grounds to spend time with your loved ones. The Academic block is the building where most classes take place, with the Mechanical Engineering department being the largest and the Biotechnology department being the smallest.

Upon entering the college, turning right will lead you to the boys’ hostel, with a total of eight hostels:

  • Ramanujan Hostel (First-year students)
  • Aryabhatta Hostel (Second-year students)
  • Vishveshwaraya A, B Raman A, B, and Bhabha (combined for third-year and final-year students)

Turning left, you’ll first reach the auditorium (Ram Prasad Bismil Auditorium), and continuing along the road will lead you to the girls’ hostel, with a total of five hostels:

  • Sarojini Hostel (First-year girls)
  • Maitri Hostel (Second and third-year girls)
  • Gargi and Apala Hostel (Final-year girls)

Regarding the faculty and academic blocks, for the first year, you’ll have a combined faculty from all departments teaching you. They are highly qualified individuals with profound subject knowledge, but it’s essential to attend classes on time and avoid excessive bunking. The Academic block features well-ventilated and bright classrooms. It has two divisions: the Old Lecture Theatre and the New Lecture Theatre. First-year classes take place in the NLT, while the rest occur in their respective branches.

Inside the academic building, it’s like a maze because every building follows a similar pattern and paint, except for the New Mechanical building. It can be challenging to identify and learn the routes initially.

The coding culture and clubs are truly active and commendable here. The sports genre is slightly overhyped compared to its actual offerings. The college is affiliated with AKTU but is autonomous, so all control lies with the director and professors. This is the only drawback of this college. Rest assured, it’s an excellent college to be a part of, and the four-year college life will be amazing. I look forward to seeing you all on campus, and I hope this little experience of mine helps you out.
