BITSAT Examination Experience

After months of hard work and preparation, the day finally came for me to take the BITSAT exam. For those who don’t know, BITSAT is an entrance test for admission into the Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) campuses across India. The exam centre for me was at a school in Lucknow. I had to reach there by 8 AM even though the exam didn’t start until 9:30 AM. Finding the place wasn’t too difficult as I had checked the route beforehand.

When I entered the school premises, I could sense the tension and anxiety in the air as hundreds of students had gathered to take this important test. We went through the normal process of getting our admission cards and ID proofs checked before being allowed inside the exam hall. The hall was huge with rows upon rows of desks and chairs filling up the space. I quickly found my assigned seat number and made myself comfortable. The instructions were given to us regarding not using unfair means, avoiding any disturbances, and filling out the OMR sheets properly. I tried to remain calm and focused while revising some important concepts in my mind during the last few minutes.

Finally, the invigilators handed out the question papers and the three-hour battle commenced! The BITSAT paper had a good mix of questions from Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency, Logical Reasoning, and Mathematics. The physics and chemistry sections had a combination of numerical value and theory-based questions that tested one’s conceptual understanding. The English section evaluated reading comprehension abilities through passages and included vocabulary-based questions.

Logical reasoning involves data interpretation problems, coding-decoding, and analytical reasoning questions. The math section covered topics like algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry, with a focus on applying concepts to solve complex problems. Some questions were straightforward while others forced me to apply concepts and think critically. Time management was also a crucial factor.

After what seemed like a hard-fought three-hour war, the final bell rang indicating the end of the exam. There were mixed emotions amongst the students – some looked confident and relieved, others contemplative about their performance, and a few just glad that the ordeal was over! I felt that while I could have done better in a couple of sections, overall I had put in my best effort based on my preparation levels. As I walked out of the exam centre, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment at having cleared this significant hurdle.

Now it’s just a matter of waiting for the results and keeping my fingers crossed to get a good score. If I make it through, the BITSAT will open doors for me to pursue my dream of becoming an engineer at a prestigious institute like BITS. And if not, I still have some more entrance tests lined up to prove my mettle! For my BITSAT preparation, I followed a strategic approach focusing on covering the entire syllabus thoroughly. I primarily relied on the study materials and previous year’s question papers provided by BITS, along with reference books like HC Verma for Physics, OP Tandon for Chemistry, and RS Aggarwal for Mathematics.

Online resources like YouTube channels and websites like BITSomania were also helpful for concept clarification and tips. Regular practice through mock tests helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses, and work on time management. Additionally, I made sure to get adequate rest and maintain a positive mindset throughout the preparation phase.
