BITSAT Exam Experience 2023

Hello, BITS(Birla Institute of Science and Technology) Aspirants. I am from first-year undergraduate majoring in Computer Science and Engineering.

I have written BITSAT(Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission test) in two sessions. It can be written as 1 session or in both sessions with a variation of the fee. The best of two sessions is considered. You can also write mock tests from the official website which gives the ambience of a real examination

BITSAT Exam Pattern:

The paper is divided into four parts:

  • Physics = 30 questions
  • Chemistry = 30 questions
  • English proficiency; = 10 questions
  • Logical reasoning = 20 questions
  • Mathematics/Biology(as per opted) = 40 questions

Each question carries 3 marks and gets -1 if incorrect. the total number of questions is 130 and the time limit is 180 minutes. There is also an extra option of attempting an extra 12 questions if all 130 questions are attempted and if time is left. Once you choose to attempt the extra questions, you can’t revise the attempted 130 questions. So, this is highly risky and I can say the best option for highly meritorious students.

My Experience:

I have started my exam with Chemistry, as the paper was easy to score and I attempted almost all of them in 40 minutes. I went on to physics next which consumed my time of 45 minutes. I realised I had to do English and logical reasoning questions and went on to these questions. I didn’t attempt the questions I didn’t know in English as the questions were kind of hard for me and I didn’t want to take risks. Logical reasoning questions were quite simple as I have practised from the indiabix website. I ended my exam with maths by the time I had 1 hour 30 minutes. I did not choose to attempt extra questions instead, I revised my paper again which was the best decision I have taken, I can say. I scored 232 marks and was eligible for choosing Electrical Engineering at BITS PILANI.

Preparation Strategy:

I was preparing for JEE Mains and I found BITSAT to be of similar pattern but the only difference is Logical reasoning and English. However, after looking at the previous year’s questions, I found that I had to spend much time analysing the papers and I needed personal guidance regarding the exam. I chose ARIHANT PREPGUIDE which covered all the topics to be studied and I had a better understanding of the concepts and a better analysis of BITSAT question papers. I also bought ARIHANT 12 years BITSAT Previous year questions book and solved all of them as the real exam and was able to improve my scores gradually.

Suggestions:

  1. TIME MANAGEMENT is highly required.
  2. Don’t be after your favourite subject, but be after the easy subject paper, as all the questions carry the same marks.
  3. Write as many mock tests as you can. Don’t stop giving mocks when you get low scores, the fruits will be visible on the result day. It plays a major role in your final score.
  4. Don’t be tempted to solve the extra questions. Even if you can answer only 130 questions will full confidence it is completely fine to get a decent result.
  5. Stay motivated. Don’t give up!!

Thanks for your time and patience. Hope the content is useful. All the best for your future endeavours.
