University of Southern California Admission Experience

I got an admit for Master of Science in Computer Science at the University of Southern California. Here’s an overview of my admission experience and process.

  • To begin with, during my pre-final year at my undergraduate university, I had decided to pursue a Master’s degree and USC was one of my dream universities.
  • I started preparing for the exams including GRE and IELTS that were required to be admitted to USC’s Master’s program. Upon clearing those exams, I was in my final year and this was time when I reached out to my professors at my University asking for a Letter of Recommendation (LOR). LOR basically portrays your skills, academic projects, expertise and your leadership that was observed by the professor throughout your time under him.
  • I reached out to 3 professors and got 3 LOR that helped me to stand out. Next, I started to prepare a Statement of Purpose (SOP), which is a short essay that usually explains your intent behind chosing the university and their program for your study.
  • I crafted SOP for securing admission to USC, included everything from my introduction to academia, projects, internships, skills, hobbies and why am I interested in joining USC.
  • USC chooses candidates with high GPA and therefore having a high undergrad GPA is beneficial to get into USC.
  • SOP is one of the main documents for securing an admission to abroad universities and therefore they should be meticulously written with a good choice of vocabulary.
  • Following that, I created a professional resume for my profile.
  • Finally, I was ready to apply to the program of Master’s in Computer Science at USC. I applied through their official portal and uploaded all my LORs, SOP, resume alongwith GRE, IELTS scores. On paying the fees, my application was succesfully submitted.
  • Around 4-5 months, I received an admit from USC and I was extremely elated to have admitted to my dream University.

In summary, one needs a good GPA, 3 LORs, a SOP, resume, GRE and IELTS scores to apply for Master’s in Computer Science at USC.
