My Career Journey Through JEE Preparation

Hello Readers, I am a 12th Passed Science Stream student giving JEE Exam this year and want to share my whole JEE preparation journey, Experiences and Learnings.

Class 11

I’ve always being a curious learner and found myself interested in the field of science and technology.

I passed class 10 with a 94% score and entered class 11 opting science stream and came to know about the Joint Engineering Entrance Exam and IITs, and NITs through my friends who had started their preparation in summer vacations.

I started through YouTube and entered this world of competition where it is believed that you are ahead of all as soon as you start your preparation. After some time, I decided to admit in a Coaching Institute to prepare for 2 years with dedication and without distraction. But I came to know about a program offered by our school (Government School) that gives 100% scholarships to learn and prepare for IIT JEE in the reputed and best coaching institute of our city through an exam selecting top 100 students from Our State, I grab that opportunity and cleared that exam and was very happy and excited to start the real preparation.

Got very supporting and experienced teaching faculties and started learning All the subjects with interest and curiosity. When i gave the very first mock test paper, I scored much less than most of the students and was demotivated but came to know about the requirements of these papers, the type of questions asked, the pattern of these papers and started improving for the upcoming tests and improved a bit in the next tests. Now, the syllabus was getting up day by day and I found myself learning in the same pace as from the very first day. In the next Test Series, my performance was again unexpected, and I started taking guidance from teachers and understand the way to approach questions. I am leaning day by day and try not to break that consistency and dedication. Now that time come when class 11 was ending and i found myself scoring better than some other but not as what i expected and the reason i found to be irregular in question practice and not thoroughly revising the class 11 concepts. There I realize the importance of Revision in the preparation and such a late realization it was. However, “It’s never Too Late” always applicable in the journey.

Class 12

It is said that You can cover up backlogs and concepts class11 by actively starting class12 , here deep concept learnings and concept driven approach are required and the syllabus got bigger , the value of NCERT textbooks got high and lessons and chapters are correlated which I found at the time of learning and have started correlating the concepts which further helps us to get to the approach as required by the JEE . I have struggled in some physics and mathematics chapters but improving a bit day by day.

In the Mid Time of class12 teachers suggests making your Short Notes and Effectively revising concepts in short time, I understand the value of that and start investing some time to make short notes including formulas, concepts, and points to ponder. Also, through one of my learning in mock tests, I started giving importance to NCERT (especially Chemistry) and investing some time to learn Language Lessons for Board (English and IT) which help me to prepare for Boards’24 Parallelly. For the distractions now, I stopped using You tube, Instagram, not as a sacrifice but to set up my priority list. I started learning and studying through small tasks completing one after another rather than to stick to timetable as it feels depressed when you are not able to follow your own planned timetable at the end of the day. And I found my breaking of the timetable to small seven to eight tasks completing two to three at a time a very effective way to learn and prepare in my journey. When the exam time was near , I started revising through my short notes. Gave the Session 1 JEE mains, boards and session 2 in order and achieved a good percentile in mains, qualified for JEE Advanced and a good percentage in class 12(93%) state board. I’ve learned through the mistake of session 1 not to repeat in session 2 and Advanced. The next target is JEE Advanced, and I was having a time of one month to prepare, and I prepare and gave the exam with full confidence and found the paper-1 doable and paper-2 a bit tricky and did the selected questions of my knowing and try to attempt non-negative questions. Now waiting for the results to come ………………

Do’s and Dont’s

  • Stick to a limited resources (Books and Notes) as Nowadays a huge number of resources are available on the internet, and you will wander and confuse which to follow.
  • Don’t allow social media apps to distract you in study time.
  • Must revise regularly for to perform better in mocks.
  • Listen to each and every line of teachers carefully and follow them.
  • Give the mocks seriously, learn from them and don’t get demotivated on scoring low.

My Learnings in the Exam Preparation Journey:

  • Always Trust your teachers ✨, follow them blindly and the results will come.
  • It’s never too late to start, We can always comeback later.
  • In any competitive exam, Its always You vs You.
  • Trying and Failing is better than doubting yourself. Failure is the biggest motivation.
  • Consistent daily efforts will lead to reach our true potential.
  • Nothing but the mindset should be unbeatable. Always have a clear strategy that works for you in the examination hall.
  • We don’t have to sacrifice but prioritize.
  • Even after failing in this exam, we can learn a lot and understand ourselves and this can be the greatest thing happen

Conclusion

In conclusion, this exam is not only to get a good college or rank, but it helps us to realize our potential, to develop the hard work in our life, to help us to get to know what really matters for us.

Aspirants learn so many things that they aren’t interested in, or they don’t want to learn but they do, and this develop the skills required in engineering field and in future they can learn anything and go to any careers. The exam builds character, a learner, and a complete engineer. Even if we fail, we will experience something that will never let us fail further in life. Here I am ending up with a quote of Eleanor Roosevelt who said: –

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
