The scientific name of grapes is “Vitis vinifera” which belongs to the “Vitis” Genus. This genus includes 60 to 80 species of grapevines in the Vitaceae family. They are mostly found in the North temperate zone. Some of them are commercial(American) grapes grown in India but their origin lies in Europe. Grapes are a diverse fruit that plays a big role in various aspects which include nutrition, agriculture, and even historical and cultural settings. India is the 10th largest producer of grapes in the world. The climate and soil conditions in these regions are perfect for the grapes to grow. A well-drained soil and warm weather are the two most important conditions for grapes to grow. In Hindi we call them “Angoor”. It’s an essential part of our diet which contains nutrients, and antioxidants, and it is the most hydrating fruit for our body.
