Introduction to JEE
The Joint Entrance Examination or JEE is a national-level competitive entrance exam in India conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programs in renowned institutions such as IITs, NITs, and other top engineering colleges across the country. JEE tests consistency and hard work along with the intelligence and on-spot problem-solving capabilities of an aspiring student.
The exam is of 300 marks distributed equally over 3 subjects namely, physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Each subject has 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and 10 integer-type questions out of which only 5 can be attempted. Each correct answer is awarded +4 marks while a wrong answer is awarded -1 marks. In integer-type questions, one must only enter an integer number as an answer and there is no negative marking in it for a wrong answer. No marks were awarded for unanswered questions. The exam duration is 3 hours.
Students are given 2 attempts and their best score out of those two attempts is taken into account to make the final merit list. Based on a criteria only students scoring above a certain percentile in JEE Mains are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced exam.
