Installation of Krita on Ubuntu

We can install Krita on Ubuntu via 3 different methods.

  • Installing Krita with a Snap
  • Installing Krita with the PPA Repository
  • Installing Krita with the AppImage

So let’s go through all the installation methods.

Method 1: Installing Krita with a Snap

Step 1: Firstly, we will install the Snap manager by executing the below command.

sudo apt install snap

 

Step 2: Now install the Krita application through snap. Run the below command in the terminal to install Krita.

sudo snap install krita

 

Step 3: Launch the application using the below command.

krita

 

Method 2: Installing Krita with the PPA Repository

Step 1: We will add Krita to your system by adding its PPA Repository, which can be done by running the following command.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kritalime/ppa

 

Step 2: Now, update the system by running the below command.

sudo apt update

 

Step 3: Now install the Krita application through apt. Run the below command in the terminal to install Krita.

sudo snap install krita

 

Step 4: Search for the Krita application in the Activities Panel.

 

Step 5: Launch the application by clicking on the Krita app’s icon.

 

Method 3: Installing Krita with the AppImage

Step 1: Firstly, go to the official downloads page of the Krita application.

Step 2: Click on the downloads option, and the popup will be displayed. So just click on the Save File option.

 

Step 3: After clicking on the Save File option, the downloading of App Image will get started. 

 

Step 4: Change the permissions of appimage file. Run the below command to change the permissions.

sudo chmod 777 ./krita-5.0.6-x86_64.appimage

 

Step 5: Now click on that file from the Downloads directory to launch the application.
