Circulatory System Parts

There are four major organs present in the circulatory system. These organs have specific roles and functions as mentioned below.

Heart

  • It is located slight towards the left in the thoracic region.
  • The heart is enveloped by the pericardium.
  • The human heart is separated into four chambers. They are two upper chambers called atria and the two lower chambers called as ventricles.

Blood

  • Its primary role is to transport essential nutrients, hormones, minerals, and other vital substances throughout the body.
  • The heart is the organ that is involve to pumping the blood to the various parts of the body.
  • Human blood consists of blood cells, blood plasma, proteins, and essential minerals like sodium, potassium, and calcium.

Blood Vessels

  • Arteries: Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygenated blood from the heart to different body parts. They are thick and elastic and, branched into tiny vessels called as capillaries. The pulmonary arteries are the only arteries that carry the deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
  • Veins: Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart from different parts of the body. They are thin, flexible, and found closer to the skin’s surface. The pulmonary and umbilical veins are exceptions. They carry oxygenated blood in the body.

Lymphatic System

  • The human circulatory system includes another fluid called lymph. It is also known as tissue fluid.
  • The lymph is created by the lymphatic system that is a network of organs, nodes, and ducts.
  • Lymph is a clear fluid made up of salts, proteins, and water. It carries digested food and absorbed fat to the spaces between cells in tissues.
  • Unlike blood, lymph is not actively pumped. It flows passively through vessels.
