My Journey of JEE Main Preparation and Admission to DAIICT

Generally, the JEE examination is for engineering students who want to secure a seat in NITs. After qualifying in the JEE Main exam, they can take the JEE Advanced exam and potentially secure a seat in IITs. Some top institutes in Gujarat, like DAIICT, Nirma, and DDU, also offer admission through JEE Mains. I took the JEE Main exam and I got 98.06 percentile, and In the board examination I got 99.86 percentile so both the way I got admission to DAIICT, DAIICT has 35% seats for the Gujarat board and 50 % seats for JEE Mains. then I took admission through the Gujarat board.

Below is the JEE Main exam paper pattern. At the start of my JEE preparation journey, I focused on practising questions based on this pattern to gain an understanding of time management and the score required for a good rank. Throughout my two-year journey, my friend and I made papers based on the main paper pattern for each other. Twice a week, we simulated the exam environment by taking these practice exams. Before the final exam, I had written over 200+ practice papers. This rigorous preparation not only familiarized me with the exam format but also honed my problem-solving skills and time management abilities.

JEE Main Paper Pattern

Mode: Computer-based test (CBT)

Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

Duration: 3 hours

Type of Questions: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Value Questions

Total Marks: 300 (Each subject is 100 marks)

Marking Scheme:

  • MCQs: +4 for correct answer, -1 for incorrect answer(25%)
  • Numerical Value Questions: +4 for the correct answer, no negative marking

Preparation Strategies

Throughout my JEE preparation, I adhered to a structured approach, following these essential guidelines:

  • Understanding the Syllabus: I meticulously reviewed the syllabus for Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, encompassing the entire NCERT curriculum of 11th and 12th standard. Identifying key topics and prioritizing them based on weightage ensured I covered all essential concepts thoroughly.
  • Creating a Study Plan: I developed detailed daily, weekly, and monthly study plans that encompassed all subjects and allowed ample time for revision. This organized approach helped me stay disciplined and focused on my goals.
  • Emphasizing Conceptual Clarity: Rather than resorting to rote memorization, I prioritized understanding fundamental concepts. Leveraging reference books and online resources, I deepened my understanding and practised solving questions to reinforce my knowledge.
  • Regular Practice: I engaged in consistent practice by solving previous years’ papers, and sample papers, and taking mock tests. This familiarized me with the exam pattern and improved my time management skills. Additionally, dedicating one day a week to a full-length exam simulated the actual test environment effectively.
  • Effective Time Management: Learning to manage my time efficiently, both during preparation and in the actual exam, was crucial. Practising solving questions within set time limits honed my time management skills and ensured I utilized exam time optimally.
  • Frequent Revision: Recognizing the significance of retention, I scheduled regular revision sessions into my study plan. This ensured that concepts and formulas remained fresh in my memory, enhancing my overall readiness for the exam.
  • Maintaining Health and Well-being: I prioritized my health by maintaining a balanced lifestyle. This included a nutritious diet, adequate sleep, and regular physical activity. Ensuring I got at least 6 hours of sleep each night was essential in managing stress and staying mentally and physically fit throughout the preparation phase.

By diligently adhering to this approach, I navigated my JEE preparation journey with confidence, ultimately achieving success in the exam.

JEE Main Exam Pattern

  • 25 questions per subject: 20 MCQs and 5 Numerical Value Questions.
  • in the numerical, there are no negative markings.
  • I filled in all the numerals, don’t skip it because it has no negative marking but if it is corrected then it is very impactful in the rank.

Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s:

  1. Before the final exam, I made a timetable and gave each subject 10 days to complete. so give full time to each subject and topic so that concepts would be clear.
  2. Every evening I planned the schedule of the next day and then I strictly followed it.
  3. Throughout this process, my primary focus remained on understanding concepts rather than resorting to rote memorization
  4. I Regularly solve practice papers and mock tests.
  5. I Analyzed my performance in mock tests to identify weak areas, I also showed my performance to the mentor and they also helped me to figure out which area I had to focus on.
  6. I generally Took 10-minute short breaks during study sessions(2 hours) to avoid burnout.
  7. Stay positive and confident about your preparation.

Don’ts:

  1. In the starting, I ignored the revision, but then I realized revision is the key to success so don’t skip revision.
  2. Don’t rely solely on one type of study material; diversify your resources. I used to solve my school materials, my friend’s school materials, Kota(Rajasthan) materials, etc. It gives you a huge variety of questions and it would be beneficial in the main exam.
  3. I was very disturbed by social media so I didn’t use social media for that two years. so if you have distractions like excessive use of social media then avoid it.
  4. Don’t neglect your health; maintain a balanced lifestyle.
  5. Sometimes I skipped difficult topics but in our school examination most of the questions came from that topic my mentor told me not to skip difficult topics if I have any trouble then ask us; to seek help from teachers or peers. Most questions often come from the topics we tend to skip, so preparing for these can significantly impact your results.
  6. Comparing my preparation with that of others was initially a weakness of mine. However, I came to a significant realization such comparisons only detracted from my focus and confidence. Instead, I shifted my mindset towards concentrating solely on my progress. Embracing this approach empowered me to set personalized goals, track my improvement, and celebrate my achievements without being swayed by external benchmarks. Ultimately, this shift in perspective fostered a healthier and more productive mindset throughout my preparation journey.
