What is Q Meter?
The Q Meter or Quality Factor Meter is the electronic device used to calculate or measure the value of quality factors in many telecommunications, hardware, and electric engineering. This meter is based on the principle of resonance. It becomes sensitive in resonance conditions. The quality factor is the parameter that shows the relation between the storage energy and the dissipated energy. It measures the total energy dissipated by it. In the laboratory, it is used for the testing of the radiofrequency of the coils.
Formula of Quality Factor
By using Q meter to find the Quality Factor by using this formula given below:
Quality Factor (Q) = ƒ0/Δƒ
where:
- Q is the quality factor.
- ƒ0is the resonant frequency.
- Δƒ is the bandwidth of the circuit.
Q Meter
It is an electronic device used in communication like telecommunication in hardware and electronics to determine or calculate the value of the quality factor of the electrical system. It is also used in electric capacitors to measure the value of capacitance and in inductors to calculate the value of inductance. It works and runs on the principle of resonance. When the circuit is in the condition of resonance, the circuit’s impedance becomes resistive. It also measures or calculates the reactance of many unknown circuits by using the known reactance. It is also known as the Quality Factor Meter.
