TYPES OF SOFTWARE

There are two types of software namely: system software and application software.

System Software

They are instructions written by computer manufacturers to control the operations of the computer system. They are programs that contribute to the control and performance of the computer system. Examples of system software include operating system, translator, data base management system and utility programs.

 Application Sotware

These are programs normally written by programmers/computer user within an organization which enable the computer to produce useful result. E.g. inventory control, attendance accounting, student records, etc.

In computing, “ware” is a term used to describe different kinds of software and related concepts, each with specific roles. Software covers all computer programs, while hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer.

Malware is harmful software designed to damage or exploit systems. Firmware is a special type of software that helps devices operate correctly. Spyware secretly collects user information, often for advertising purposes. Freeware is software that’s available for free, though it might include ads or limited features. Shareware is initially free but encourages users to buy the full version after trying it. Adware automatically shows or downloads ads. Bloatware is unwanted software pre-installed on a device that can slow it down.

Finally, ransomware locks access to a system until a ransom is paid. These terms help us categorize and discuss the wide range of software used in computers.
