Types of Law Colleges In India
Law colleges in India fall into four main categories based on ownership and funding sources.
- Firstly, there are National Law Universities (NLUs), dedicated institutions for legal education. NLUs are public entities established under state legislative assembly acts. Prominent NLUs include NLSIU Bengaluru, NLU Delhi, NALSAR Hyderabad, and WBNUJS Kolkata.
- Secondly, central universities offer law courses, established through parliamentary acts and funded by the central government. Examples include Banaras Hindu University and Delhi University.
- Government law colleges also include state universities and state-funded institutions offering law programs under state legislative acts. Panjab University, Kurukshetra University, and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University are examples of state universities providing legal education.
