The second planet in the Solar System – Venus
Venus is the second planet from the sun and it has a diameter of 12,104 kilometres. It is very much similar to Earth’s diameter of 12,756 kilometers. Venus is also called the sister of earth. It is a terrestrial planet composed mainly of rock and metal. Its atmosphere consists of 96 % carbon dioxide and other gases like nitrogen and sulfur dioxide. The atmospheric pressure is 90 times greater than the pressure of the earth.
Venus is the hottest planet in our solar system due to its position near the sun and its atmosphere consists of more than 90 per cent of carbon dioxide. Its surface temperatures reach over 860°F (460°C). Its slow rotation, taking 243 Earth days, further contributes to its extreme and stable temperatures. Interestingly, a day on Venus is longer than its year.
