China wasn’t winning any medals in the Olympic pool a few decades ago. In 2012, Sun Yang became the first Chinese man to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming. However, Yang was recently banned from international competitions for 4 years for cheating. At the local level, China’s middle class can now afford to give their child swimming lessons at the pool.
