Mica

Mica is the name given to a collection of metals with similar chemical and physical properties. All the minerals in mica are silicate metals. Mica is also known as sheet silicates as individual mica crystals can be split into many thin elastic sheets or plates. Mica is commonly found in Igneous and Metamorphic rock. The quantity of mica is more in granites, schists, and pegmatites. 

The mica group consists of 317 minerals. All these minerals are crystalized in a monoclinic system. All these minerals are similar in structure but differ slightly in chemical composition.  Mica’s value is based on the physical properties of the crystal. Mica has been widely used in India even since ancient times. The insulating properties of mica have promoted the use of mica as insulation in the electronic industry. China is currently the largest producer of mica.
