Layers of the Stomach
Stomach consist of four main layers. The four main layers of Stomach are mucosa, submucosa, muscularis externa and the serosa.
- The innermost layer is mucosa which is covered by epithelial tissue and is mainly comprised of gastric glands that secrete gastric juices.
- Submucosa is the second layer which supports the mucosa. It is rich in blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves.
- Muscularis is the third layer of stomach and is made of thick muscles. They help to mix food with the digestive juices.
- Serosa is the last and outermost layer of our stomach. It’s the lining that wraps around the stomach to confine it.
