IELTS Writing Score 2024
Examiners employ assessment criteria to evaluate the writing performance of candidates, assigning a band score ranging from 1 to 9. These scores are based on four criteria: Task Achievement (for Task 1), Task Response (for Task 2), Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Each criterion holds equal importance.
Let’s briefly examine each of the IELTS Writing marking criteria:
- Task Achievement (IELTS Writing Task 1): Involves selecting key ideas, analyzing data accurately, and presenting concepts logically and systematically.
- Task Response (IELTS Writing Task 2): Encompasses addressing all aspects of the essay prompt, providing a well-structured response, conveying precise meanings, and utilizing diverse vocabulary.
- Coherence and Cohesion: Focuses on organizing information and ideas into cohesive paragraphs, ensuring clear connections between paragraphs and concepts.
- Lexical Resource: Refers to the use of vocabulary, including idioms, phrasal verbs, and collocations, in appropriate contexts.
- Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Evaluates the candidate’s ability to use a wide range of grammatical structures accurately, including verb tenses, punctuation, and word choice, with proper organization and style.
