At the time of his birth in imitation of the world, his father, Kishan Singh, and uncles Ajit and Swaran Singh were imprisoned for their opposition to the Colonization Bill, which was passed in 1906. Sardar Ajit Singh, his uncle, was formerly a supporter of the development and founded the Indian Patriots’ Association.
