He became the chief minister of Goa on 30 May 1987. He studied at Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military School, Pune, This pre-independence military school, was established in 1938. He has a bachelor’s degree in Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Texas A&M University, USA After completing his schooling in Pune, Rane travelled to the United States to pursue higher education.
