The main objective is to develop an appreciation for human rights guaranteed in the Constitution and involvement with Constitution as a âLiving Documentâ.

Chapter 3: Why do We Need a Parliament?
The third chapter deals with the Parliament and the reasons for the Parliamentary form of Government in India. The main concepts include the features of the composition of parliament and its role in the debating of a bill; the Accountability of the government to the Parliament and the roles of the President, Prime Ministers, and the Council of Ministers.

Chapter 4: Understanding Laws
The fourth chapter deals with Understanding Laws. It discusses how the Rule of Law has emerged and the ways in which the nationalists have opposed British Laws. The main objective is to analyze the role of people and their agency in placing demands on the legislation and the ways in which Government and other groups respond to it.

Unit 3: The Judiciary
Chapter 5: Judiciary
The fifth chapter deals with the Judiciary. It deals with understanding the judiciary by tracing Lower to Higher Courts; the difference between Civil and Criminal Cases. The main objective is to understand the main elements of the judicial structure and the need for the processes followed.
Chapter 6: Understanding Our Criminal Justice System
The sixth chapter deals with Understanding Our Criminal Justice System. The chapter deals with topics like the difference between the Roles of the Police and the Courts and the Role of the Police; FIR and the Supreme Courtâs Directive. The objective is to understand the need for the processes to be followed and to understand what an FIR is and how to file one.

Chapter 7: Understanding Marginalisation
The seventh chapter deals with Understanding Marginalisation. It deals with the basic concepts of who were Adivasis, Stereotyping, Development, and Marginalisation. The main objective is to familiarize us with a critical understanding of the social and economic injustices, and skills for analyzing an argument from a marginalized point of view.

Chapter 8: Confronting Marginalisation

Unit 5: Economic Presence of the Government
Chapter 9: Public Facilities
The ninth chapter deals with Public Facilities. The chapter introduces the various ways in which the government is engaged in development activities, like that of infrastructural development and social sectors.

The tenth chapter deals with the Law and Social Justice. The chapter deals with basic concepts like that of Workerâs Worth, Safety Laws, Laws to Protect the Environment and case study of Bhopal Gas Tragedy. The main objective of the chapter is to form links between peopleâs needs and the role of government.
