History of Rungrado 1st of May Stadium

Rungrado 1st of May Stadium, Pynogyang was built in the years 1986-189 and opened on 1st May 1989. Previously it’s name was Rungrado May Stadium. Due to the fact that it was opened on 1st of May, it got it’s name. Moreover the significance of this name is that it was created to honour the workers of North Korea as 1st May is celebrated as International Workers Day. In the year 1988, North Korea was supposed to organize one of the world’s largest international events that is The 13th World Festival of Youth & Students. In order to conduct that event successfully and create an instilling impact on the world, North Korea decided to conduct it in one of the best possible ways and thereby came this idea of creating the world’s largest stadium of football. The stadium is home for North Korea’s national football team, both men and women. It holds multiple events of football, soccer, athletics, gymnastics etc.
