Signal Processing
In signal processing, impulse noise appears as sudden spikes or disturbances in the signal waveform. The signal is the meaningful information that you’re actually trying to detect. The noise is the random, unwanted variation or fluctuation that interferes with the signal.
Image Processing
Impulse noise usually corrupts images due to a defect in the device’s hardware or in the camera’s sensor. Impulse noise replaces some of the pixels in the original image. The salt-and-pepper noise, which takes only one of the following two values [0,55] and random white dots in the image are the effects of impulse noise occurs during image acquisition and transmission.
