About Interim Government
On 2nd September 1946, the Interim Government of India came into existence to manage the shift from British colonial rule to an independent republic. Jawaharlal Nehru led this unique cabinet, marking the only instance in India’s history where the Congress and the Muslim League, usually political rivals, collaborated in power at the Center.
The interim administration guided the country through this time of change with a great deal of autonomy during its existence. Its power lasted until the end of the British Empire, and it cleared the path for the creation of the Dominions of India and Pakistan.
