Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow Admission Experience

Established in 1984, the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) is one of the top-ranked government institutes in Uttar Pradesh. The institute is affiliated with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow and is financed by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It is an institute recognized by AICTE. Currently, IET is an institute with an autonomous status given by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

This article is an admission experience and guide to admission in B. Tech. at IET.

IET offers 8 branches under B. Tech. as follows:

  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering (Self Finance)
  • Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence)
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering

IET is one of the most sought-after colleges and therefore, the cut-off is quite high which can be checked here: UPTAC Opening and Closing Ranks.

Eligibility criteria

To pursue B. Tech. from the Institute of Engineering and Technology, candidates must have completed their 10+2 class with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and scored a minimum of 45% aggregate from a recognized board. The student also has to appear in the JEE Mains examination.

Entrance Examination

One has to appear in the JEE Mains Paper-1 examination to be eligible for admission to B. Tech. at IET. The exam is conducted in two attempts – January and April attempt. I scored well in both attempts and got an All-India Rank of 22783. Many people are unaware of such state government colleges that admit candidates based on their JEE scorecard. I would lay stress on doing the relevant research on all the institutes you are eligible to apply, to once you are over with your exams, to avoid missing a possibly great opportunity.

Admission process

Counselling

To apply for admission to the Institute of Engineering and Technology, the candidate has to take part in UPTAC counselling. The counselling is done based on the JEE Mains score. It was a 4-round counselling process distributed over one month. I preferred Computer Science and Engineering and was luckily allotted the Computer Science and Engineering branch in my self. The counselling process is completely online and hence was hassle-free. Though the counselling had been delayed by a month, the result was fruitful and the wait was worth it.

Physical Reporting

Physical reporting is conducted a day or two after the fourth round of counselling, where we are supposed to submit all required documents physically at the Institute and pay the fees for one year (two semesters). I spent more than 6 hours at the institute due to the long queues everywhere, but I cannot complain as the number of students was quite large and the management was quite supportive. It is advised to reach earlier than the allotted time and double-check that you are carrying all necessary documents to avoid traffic in long queues. It was a new experience where I also met my first few batch mates and made new friends. The physical reporting day was tiring but the induction programme in the following days made up for it.

Once you are over with all the steps involved in physical reporting, you are an engineering student at IET!

Conclusion:

The journey since JEE preparation seems like a struggle but when you are finally a student at an esteemed college, all the hard work seems worth it. The admission experience is just the start of a whole new set of experiences and memories that one should look forward to. The admission process was quite smooth.

Overall, I enjoyed the journey and the process of getting into IET.
