Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology Admission Experience

The experience was a quiet struggle. First of all, I’m a diploma electrical engineering student. After completing my diploma, I attended the JELET exam and scored around 302. Then I started the counseling process, and the first list showed that I got a seat in the Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology (GCECT) in the CSE department. At that time, I didn’t expect the storm that was waiting for me.

Within the scheduled date, I arrived at the college in Beliaghata, Rasmoni Bazar, with all the supporting documents. My hometown is Purba Bardhaman, Nasigram, which is around 200+ km away.

I thought that after document verification, my choice would be upgraded. But during the document verification, I got stuck with the domicile certificate, which was authorized by the block B.D.O. The document verification was stopped because the domicile certificate stated that I was just a 3-month permanent resident of my village. Even the BDO office clerk had cut the 10 years on the proforma and put 3 months instead.

The register then told me that admission was not possible in this way. The register suggested another way to get admission, which was to go to my previous diploma college and get a domicile certificate on another proforma (Proforma B). My friend and I went to our previous college and obtained the certificate. The next day, when we came back, the college official (Sapan Sir) said we had filled the wrong proforma, and the correct one was Proforma C.

At this point, we had lost all hope, as it was around 2 PM, and that day was the last day for document verification. We started requesting, but they were not ready to admit us. Then the principal called our parents and told them that the only way was to get a provisional admission, but for that, we needed some extra documents. We agreed and got provisionally admitted for 7 days, with the condition that if we didn’t submit the domicile within 7 days, our provisional admission would be canceled.

The next day, we went to our previous college and obtained the domicile on the right proforma (Proforma C) and submitted it on the 3rd day. After that, we successfully became students of GCECT.

Now, in 2024, we have passed out with the 5th rank (9.82) and 2nd rank (9.89) in our CSE branch, in offline mode. This was my admission experience.
