BHU UET Maths Group Exam Experience

About UET:

Before accepting students through the CUET conducted by NTA for admission to undergrad programs, the Banaras Hindu University, BHU conducted its own Undergraduate Entrance Test for such admissions. I applied to the BSc (Hons.) program at BHU in 2020 and hence, had to appear in the UET.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus:

The UET for Maths group was a 150 mins long objective (MCQs) test consisting of 150 problems: 50 each from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. For every correct response, 3 marks were awarded and for every incorrect response, 1 mark was deducted.

Like every other entrance test after 12th, the syllabus of UET was roughly the topics covered in class 11 and 12 in the NCERT books of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

The problems were easier than that of JEE Main. But due to the time pressure, the number of problems that could be solved in the exam was less.

My experience of the exam day:

Due to the COVID outbreak and the imposed lockdowns, the exam was postponed from May end to September 10. In my hometown, there were no exam centers and hence, I was alloted a centre in BHU itself. It was around 150 kms away from my home. Even though the goverment had started conducting exams, the number of trains that were operational was very less and none of the trains from my hometown to Varanasi were operational. As a result, I had to reserve a car just to appear in the exam. The only problem was that I suffer from motion sickness and the condition of the road I had to take is very poor. As expected, I vomited twice on the way to my exam center that day.

I reached BHU around 2 hours before the reporting time. The calm and peaceful environment of BHU relieved me a bit. I took some light food and then roamed around the beautiful and serene campus. That really soothed me and made me fit enough to write the exam.

Following the covid norms, we were allowed to enter the exam hall and seated accordingly with our masks on. Although I opted for a CBT in my application form, I was alloted a pen and paper exam center. When I received the question paper, Chemistry made me nervous. I had forgotton most of it since I didn’t revise anything after my board exams. Physics was okayish and to me, Mathematics seemed easy.

I started with chem, then physics. In the first 80 mins or so, I went through all the solvable problems. Then I proceeded with Mathematics. But I had started feeling dizziness again and nausea. Around 20 mins were left when I vomited again. I had done 40/50 problems of mathematics but couldn’t proceed any further.

I submitted my omr sheet once the exam was over and came out in the open air to breathe.

Result:

I completed my BSc (Hons.) Mathematics from BHU in 2023. So yeah, I qualified the UET.
