Write a Short Paragraph on the Harmful Effect of Microorganism

Microorganisms, also known as microbes, can be either beneficial or harmful. Harmful microbes, called pathogens, can cause various diseases. Microbes are classified into two major types: prokaryotes and eukaryotes. While some microbes, like Lactobacillus, Lactococcus, and Leuconostoc, are beneficial, others are harmful and can cause diseases.

What are the Harmful Effects of Microorganisms?

Some of the harmful effects of microorganisms are:

  • Protozoa: These single-celled eukaryotes can cause diseases such as malaria, amoebiasis, and giardiasis. They are often transmitted through contaminated water or insect vectors like mosquitoes.
  • Fungi: Fungi cause various fungal diseases, such as mildew, rusts, scabs, or canker, leading to economic loss in agriculture. In humans, fungi can cause skin diseases.
  • Bacteria: Common microorganisms that cause many illnesses in humans, including tuberculosis, gonorrhoea, and strep throat. Bacterial diseases can also lead to food poisoning, resulting in symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.
  • Viruses: Non-living microorganisms that can cause serious health problems, including chickenpox, HIV, hepatitis, and polio. Viruses can significantly impact human health and contribute to environmental changes by altering ecosystems.
