WBJEE Entrance Exam Preparation Experience

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) was a milestone for me, as I aspired to pursue B.Tech engineering courses in esteemed institutions across West Bengal. While many opt for coaching centers, embarking on a self-study journey can be equally rewarding and fulfilling. In this blog, I’ll share my experience of preparing for the WBJEE through self-study, strategies, and tips to help aspirants chart their path to success.

After completing my 12th grade from the WB state board, and considering joining coaching centers to prepare for the entrance exam, I realized the financial burden associated with it, including fees and the cost of mock tests. Since my family’s financial condition was not affordable, I had to explore alternative options.

Understanding the Exam:

Every year, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) conducts the WBJEE, a state-level entrance test, to determine the eligibility of candidates for engineering and pharmacy programs in West Bengal. With over 1 lakh students participating each year, the competition is fierce. The exam consists of two papers, focusing on subjects pertinent to engineering and pharmacy careers.

Preparation strategies:

  • What I Used: I only purchased a WBJEE Previous Year Questions Paper Book covering the last 10 years. Additionally, I utilized Physics, Chemistry, and Math books that were already available. I also made use of NCERT books, which are available online for free in PDF format.
  • Resource Gathering: Since I opted for self-study, I gathered all necessary study materials and resources. I utilized textbooks, reference books, online resources, YouTube channels, and previous years’ question papers to enhance my understanding of key concepts.
  • Conceptual Clarity: I focused on building a strong foundation in fundamental concepts. Rather than rote learning, I aimed for conceptual clarity, as it helped me to tackle a variety of questions effectively.
  • Practice Regularly: Practice is key to success in any entrance exam. Dedicate ample time to solving problems from each topic. I started with basic problems from WBJEE PYQ and gradually moved on to more complex ones to improve my problem-solving skills.
  • Mock Tests: Despite not attending coaching centers, I picked a random year (from the previous 10 years) and started solving the paper within the allocated time. Analyzing my own performance by myself was an amazing experience.

By following these strategies diligently, you can overcome financial constraints and crack the WBJEE through self-study. Your determination and perseverance will undoubtedly lead you to success.
