VITEEE Exam Experience

There are numerous exams conducted for admission to different engineering colleges in India. However, VITEEE stands out from those exams because of its moderate level of difficulty and the range of colleges students can apply to based on its results. While I may not have succeeded in passing the exam, I believe this article provides an opportunity for you to learn from the mistakes I encountered during my preparation.

Format of the Exam:

The Vellore Institute of Technology has provided detailed information regarding the question paper pattern on its official website, accessible online. All aspiring students need to visit the institute’s official website and get familiar with the question paper pattern and syllabus. However, for your convenience, I’ve provided a breakdown of the paper below.

  • The examination will be conducted online, following a Computer-Based Test (CBT) format. Each of you will have a total duration of two hours and thirty minutes (2.5 hours) to complete the entrance examination. The allocation of questions varies depending on the subjects covered in the syllabus outlined earlier.
  • In the Mathematics section, you are required to answer 40 questions. Physics consists of 35 questions, while Chemistry also contains 35 questions. The aptitude and English sections are separated, with ten questions allocated to aptitude and five to English.
  • All questions follow an Objective-Multiple Choice format. In total, you will encounter 125 questions during the examination. Understanding the marking scheme is crucial for VITEEE aspirants. For every correct answer, you will receive one mark. Notably, there is no provision for negative marking, which is advantageous for you, eliminating the fear of losing marks for incorrect answers.

My Experience

You can easily find the format of the VITEEE exam on the internet; however, what you can’t get is the experience that others have. I am going to share my own experience of preparing for this examination.

Primarily, I focused on preparing for the JEE exam and kept this exam as a backup plan. If, for any reason, I couldn’t clear the JEE exam, I would then shift my efforts to preparing for this exam. That was my master plan.

My preparation for the VITEEE was centered around revising my basics rather than undertaking extensive additional study. For physics, I found H.C. Verma’s book particularly helpful as it emphasizes fundamental concepts. While I didn’t have a specific book for maths and chemistry, I believe Pradeep’s publications could be beneficial for chemistry as well. The sample papers I reviewed resembled Level 1 questions found in many IIT preparation books, which gave me a sense of confidence.

Exam day finally arrived, but things didn’t go as well as I had hoped. Despite following my strategy, I struggled with many questions and found myself running out of time. I managed to solve only about 60 questions with confidence. For the remaining ones, I had to make a lot of guesses, and I wasn’t sure how many of those would turn out to be correct.

When I got home, I shared my concerns with my parents, admitting that I wasn’t confident about my chances of securing a spot in the CSE course at VIT Vellore. They tried to reassure me, but I could see they were worried too. My confidence was shaken, and I couldn’t help but feel anxious about the results.

Tips for Students Based on My Experience

The simple guided way for the VITEEE preparation journey is to remain consistent, stay motivated, keep practicing, and keep yourself updated with the latest syllabus and updates. You can also refer to different help books provided for each subject. I would recommend you to go forward with the Careers360 VITEEE Knockout course, which provides a complete course on VITEEE preparation, notes, guidance, and mentorship by supportive faculties. They also provide sample papers and mock questions for the aspirants to sharpen their knowledge.

Conclusion

Always be motivated; there is always more in life.
