Should I take the SAT or ACT?

Choosing between the SAT and the ACT depends on your strengths and preferences:

  1. Content Differences: The SAT emphasizes reasoning and problem-solving, while the ACT includes a Science section and generally more straightforward questions.
  2. Math Section: While the material covered in the math sections of both tests is similar, the SAT covers more complex subjects like trigonometry and advanced algebra. The SAT gives more time per question and focuses on algebra; the ACT covers a broader range of math topics and allows less time per question.
  3. Optional Essay: Both tests offer an optional essay, but they are structured differently.
  4. Scoring: SAT scores range from 400 to 1600, while ACT scores range from 1 to 36.

Consider taking practice tests for both to see which format and style suit you better. Also, check if the colleges you are interested in prefer one over the other.
