NPTEL – Exam Experience

National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) , is a project initiated by the Indian government to provide high-quality education in engineering and science disciplines through online courses. Once I began my Engineering journey I came to know about this opportunity through my college. Our organization supports a lot to go through such learning platforms to enhance our skills to the next level.

On my 1st year I’m not ready to take part in it as I was in lack of self confidence and anxiety. Later, from the encouragement from staffs and my seniors I registered my 1st course and began my learning process.

NPTEL provides with more than 10,000 courses available in weekly based schedules. We can register the courses for free and are typically taught by professors and faculty members from various prestigious institutions in India, primarily from the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

The courses are categorized based on weekly batches. There are 4 possible batches available which is decided based on the course content and the credit points earned by the course. The categories are 4 weeks, 8 weeks, 6 weeks and 12 weeks.

NPTEL categorizes its courses into various disciplines and topics such as

1. Engineering
2. Science
3. Humanities and Social Sciences
4. Management
5. Computer Science and Information Technology
6. Basic Sciences
7. Interdisciplinary Courses.

So students from various domains can make use of this platform and improve their knowledge by which can get benefit of extra credits too.

The registration and the learning process is completely free of cost but to make an attempt with their exam we need to pay rupees 1000/- and by passing the exam we’ll be benefited with the course completion certificate and extra credits to be added to our academics.

Th certifications also has criteria based on the marks scored such as course completion certification for marks above 40, an elite certification for marks above 60 and silver + elite certification for marks above 80 and 1% topper certificate for marks above 90.

Minimum mark requirement is 40 in which average assessment score must be minimum 10 out of 25 and final exam score must be minimum 30 out of 75. So the total minimum marks to be certified must be 40 out of 100.

As I said earlier I started my first course on my 2nd year but I couldn’t succeed in that attempt. but with fullest hope I registered again and succeeded in my second attempt with an elite certification.

Throughout the learning journey I was very much interested and curious to gain a lot of knowledge from various informative sessions from IIT professors.
