NIT Patna Journey For IIT-JEE Exam

Hello Everyone, hope you’re doing extremely well. Myself Aman Kumar, a pre-final year B.Tech student at NIT Patna. Today I am going to share with you my experience of cracking the JEE mains and getting Admission to NIT PATNA.

From the beginning, I was a student of the Bihar School Examination Board(Hindi Medium). I have studied till class 10th in Hindi. I have been bright in my studies since my childhood and also my English is quite good compared to many other Hindi Medium students. I have passed my class 10th with 77% in 2018 from BSEB. After that, I took science and did my intermediate from BSEB (English Medium) with 87.8% in 2020. I was passionate towards study and I wanted to make a great career but I did have not much exposure to further higher studies and jobs.

My Engineering Exam Journey

In class 11th, I have joined 3 separate coaching for Physics, Chemistry and Math in my locality. My coaching teacher told me about the IIT-JEE examinations and I decided that I would crack that exam and do engineering. Like other students, more than 50% of class 11th was wasted. In class 12th, I became serious about my board examinations(BSEB Intermediate exam). My board exam was finished in February month. I was given 1st attempt at JEE mains in 2020 (The exam was held in September due to Covid). In that attempt, I got 96.16 per cent with AIR 44897. My rank was not much good and decided to take a drop for my preparations. As I have given another attempt in 2021 I got 4 attempts of JEE Mains(February, March, July and August).

My Exam Preparation

I have not joined any coaching institute and have not taken any online courses in my drop year. I think probably it was due to my poor financial family condition. First of all, I have listed all those chapters in which I don’t even remember the basics and completed them with my coaching notes and with the help of YouTube. As I had very little time left so I started late-night studies and started covering topics as much as I could. I focused mainly on the previous year’s questions.

My Secret Strategy

I have noted all topics of these 3 subjects from which very easy questions came every year and most students ignore those. in Chemistry, those were Chemistry in everyday life, Environmental Chemistry and Polymers. In Math, those were Height and Distance and Mathematical reasoning. In Physics, those were Modern Physics, Communication Systems and Units & Dimensions. These helped me to get free marks for about 7-8 questions. I also noted some important topics from every lesson from which Easy questions comes must every year. These helped me a lot.

My Best Attempt and Strongest Subject

Out of those 4 attempts, my best attempt was the July session in which I scored 97.63 percentile. I got an overall AIR 22561 and a category rank of 5097. My strongest subject was Chemistry. I have scored about 99.4 percentile in chemistry. I have a strong command of every topic of chemistry and also I have solved many previous year questions. Chemistry was my secret weapon to achieve this good rank. Despite having resources, my strong willpower and consistent hard work helped me to get admission to NIT.

Tips from my preparation Journey to my dear Junior JEE aspirants:-

  1. Give importance to all 3 subjects and try to cover as many chapters as you can.
  2. Although my many above-mentioned easy chapters are removed from the JEE syllabus still you can find many chapters that are neglected by students and coaches which need very little time to cover and help you to surely solve that chapter question in the exam.
  3. In the current scenario, it is less advisable to take a drop. If you are fully confident that in the drop year, you can perform well then take it surely.
  4. Don’t cry over limited resources. Your real talent comes out only when the resources are limited.

I hope my journey inspires you and helps you in your JEE preparation. Wish you all the best for a bright future.
