List of Towns Associated with Important Industries
In Human geography, one of the important topics mentioned in towns associated with important industries. This topic is considered very important for competitive exams like SSC, Banking, Railways, and many other exams. Aspirants need to cover this topic thoroughly and revise it regularly. This article discusses various towns associated with important industries
Factors Responsible for the location of Industries:
1. Raw materials: Bulky goods and lightweight materials cannot be transported long distances. Therefore, industries such as the steel industry and sugar industry are located near iron ore and sugarcane production areas. The Salem Ironworks is located near Kanjamalai where iron ore is available. Similarly, the sugar industry is located near sugar cane growing areas.
2. Power: Power is fundamental and essential to leading across industries. Electricity is primarily generated from conventional sources such as coal, oil, and water. Each of these power sources should therefore be located close to the industry to meet the power demand.
3. Labor: The availability of cheap and skilled labor is another key requirement for labor-intensive industries (such as the tea industry).
4. Transportation: Required to transport raw materials to industry and finished products to market. The availability of easy transportation will always affect the industrial location. Thus, the crossroads of waterways, roads, and railways become active centers of industrial activity.
5. Storage and Warehousing: Finished products must be shipped to the market at the end of the manufacturing process. Therefore, such finished products should be stored in suitable warehouses or warehouses until the goods are placed on the market.
6. Terrain: The location chosen to place the industry must be horizontal. Therefore, it can be well served by various means of transport.
7. Climate: The climate of the area chosen for the industry is also one of the important factors in locating the industry. Extreme climatic conditions are not suitable for successful industrial growth. Additionally, certain industries require specific climates. For example, the cool, humid climate is ideal for the cotton textile industry. Coimbatore and Tirupur have such a climate that many cotton textile industries are located in this area.
8. Water Resources: Water availability is another important factor affecting industrial locations. For this reason, many industries are located near rivers, canals, and lakes. The steel, textile, and chemical industries require large amounts of water for their smooth functioning.
