Types of Sphygmomanometer

There are majorly 3 types of sphygmomanometer used in clinical settings :

Mercury Sphygmomanometer

It is the traditional sphygmomanometer which consists of a Mercury-filled manometer attached to an inflatable cuff and a pressure bulb. Although it shows more accurate readings than all other sphygmomanometers, the only drawback of this sphygmomanometer is Mercury exposure.

Android Sphygmomanometer

It consists of a mechanical gauge with a pointer that moves along a scale to indicate blood pressure readings. This sphygmomanometer is easy to use ,carry and no Mercury exposure is there which was the problem in Mercury sphygmomanometer. One drawback in sphygmomanometer is that they require periodic calibration to maintain accuracy.

Digital Sphygmomanometer

Digital sphygmomanometer is the modern and most recently invented sphygmomanometer. It is widely used not only by health professionals but also by common people. It is easy to use and anyone can use it at home. It has so many advanced features which were not there in the previous two sphygmomanometers. Digital sphygmomanometer uses electronic sensors and a digital display to measure and display reading; it also provides features like irregular heart beat detection, automatic inflation and memory storage.
