Smallest district of assam
South Salmara-Mankachar is the smallest district in Assam in terms of land area, spanning only 568 square kilometres. Even though it is small, it is quite important to the state’s social as well as cultural scenes. However, Majuli is unique among the districts of Assam in that it has the least number of people living in it. Although it is 880 square kilometres in size, only 167,304 people live there. In addition to its low population density, Majuli is well-known for being the world’s biggest river island, providing a rich tapestry of Assamese history and culture and showcasing the distinct variety within Assam.
