Chest piece
It is the main part of the stethoscope. The chest piece consists of the round and oval diaphragm and the bell. It is the part that is placed over patient’s chest to hear the sounds of a heartbeat.
Diaphragm
It is the flat surface on the chest piece it is specially designed to capture high-frequency sounds. Diaphragm is placed firmly against the patients body for listening the sound produced.
Bell
It is a small area present on the chest piece and is used to hear very low-frequency sounds like the vascular sound. The bell picks up sounds that may not be detected by diaphragm.
Tubing
It is a long tube that connects the chest piece with the earpiece. It maintains the frequency and waves of the sound and is reflected multiple times to go from chest piece to ear piece. According to need, this tube is either made of a single tube or a double tube.
Stem
It is an important part that connect the tubing with the chest piece. It allows users to switch between the diaphragm and bell of the chest piece by rotating and locking it with a ball bearing mechanism.
Ear tips
These are small buds that are placed at the end of ear piece. Earpieces are used by the doctors to place them in both their ears. These buds are either made of rubber or plastics according to need.
Ear tubes
These are small, hollow metal tube which helps in connecting the ear tips with the tube. Ear tubes also help to transmit the sound waves to the ear of the doctor.
