Origin and Objective of the Unique Land Parcel Identification Number Scheme
The Central Government of India established the ULPIN to provide an effective and organized mechanism for acquiring geographical information. It is part of the Digital India Land Records Modernization Program, which began in 2008. According to the government, the ULPIN ensures that all land-related transactions are unique and that all land titles are current. The ULPIN initiative began in 2021. The Ministry of Rural Development’s Department of Land Resources hopes to have it established and operational in all states and UTs by the end of 2022.
The government’s aim with this new program was to make information related to land more accessible while optimizing the country’s land resource consumption.
