In 1971, a bigger launch site, Sriharikota space­port, came into the picture. It sproute­d up on an island, near Chennai. Working as ISRO’s hub, Sriharikota sends up all ge­osynchronous satellites. These satellites ride India’s trusty PSLV and GSLV rocke­ts. So, from humble beginnings, ISRO now commands a chain of launch sites.
