Administration of Chandigarh
According to Article 239 of the Indian constitution, the administration of all the Union Territories are provided by the Indian President with the help of an administrator. For Chandigarh, the Governor of Punjab has served concurrently as the administrator since 1984.
The city is governed by a civic administration or local government which is headed by the Municipal Commissioner. The city has 35 wards that are represented by 35 elected councilors.
