Google Chrome aims to make browsing the web ‘easier and safer’ with 3 new AI generative features

Chrome, Google’s web browser for Mac and Windows, has three new features supported by generative AI: tab grouping, themes powered by generative AI, and an enhanced writing tool. These new AI add-ons will enhance users’ experiences by making browsing faster, safer, and more customized per the user’s requirements.

Chrome is always trying to make browsing more accessible, secure, and user-friendly for users with the latest machine learning and AI technology. Adding real-time captions to videos, better detecting fraudulent sites, managing permission questions, and generating the main points of a webpage were practical, everyday chores that Google initially improved.

Today’s Chrome (M121) release introduces experimental generative AI features that will make browsing even easier and faster while maintaining your experience’s personalization.

The new AI updates will soon be rolled out for testing on Macs and Windows PCs in the US.

Step 1: Open Chrome

Open the Chrome Browser window on your devices and log in with your account credentials.

Step 2: Browse through the “Experimental AI” page.

From the three-dot menu, open the “Settings”. From the drop-down menu, select the “Experimental AI” page.

The features are in the development phase; therefore, they will not be available to enterprise and educational customers for a certain duration.

Customise Chrome

Chrome users may now personalize their browser’s theme, just like the new features on Android 14 and Pixel 8 phones. This feature’s simple click-and-create interface lets Users make generative AI wallpapers for Chrome. In addition, the user can choose their mood, visual style, and color scheme. Chrome’s generative AI will quickly generate a bespoke theme according to their preferences. You can use this AI tool by going to the homepage’s “Customise Chrome” box, clicking “Change theme,” and then selecting “Create with AI.”

AI-powered Writing Assistant

This AI-driven technology makes it easier for users to fill out online form fields. If users want to add to the AI’s suggested ideas, they can do so by clicking the text box. This AI-powered feature offers suggestions and prompts to improve the text authoring process, whether you’re composing an email, social media post, or product review. Simply right-clicking a text box in Chrome and choosing “Help me write” will bring up this feature. The next step is to input some keywords, and the AI will then produce content automatically based on your input.

Tab Organiser:

This functionality, driven by AI, allows users to manage and create multiple tabs effortlessly without requiring explicit inputs. Using this AI feature, Chrome can detect which tabs are currently active and automatically organize them into groups. Chrome may even suggest emojis and names for the created tab groups, making them more manageable and effective. To access this functionality, users must right-click on a tab and select “Organise Similar Tabs” from the menu that appears.

Chrome for Mac and Windows users will soon get the updated functionality, with the rollout beginning in the US in the coming days. Head to the “Experimental AI” tab after clicking “Settings” from the three-dot menu to access the new functionality.

These capabilities are still in the experimental phase; thus, Enterprise and Education accounts cannot access them.
