GGITS Navratri Fest Experience (DHOLIDA 2.0)

India is a country with diversity; it is also the biggest example of unity in diversity.

Navratri is one of the best examples in which people of all cultures and backgrounds join together and play “Garba.” The nine-night festival dedicated to the worship of the Hindu goddess Durga is celebrated with great enthusiasm and emotion across India.

In our college, this auspicious festival is celebrated with equal zeal, bringing together students from diverse backgrounds to rejoice in the vibrant colours, music, and dance associated with Navratri.

The Navratri festival in our college is an annual event that showcases the rich cultural heritage of our country. The preparations for this grand celebration begin weeks in advance, with students forming committees and organising various activities and performances to make the event a memorable one.

Some main highlights of the Navratri festival are:

  1. Attractive decoration: One of the highlights of the Navratri festival is the beautifully decorated Garba and Dandiya Raas arenas. The entire college campus is transformed into a mesmerising sight, with vibrant lights, colourful drapes, and intricate rangoli designs adorning every corner. The atmosphere is filled with excitement and anticipation as students eagerly wait for the festivities to begin.
  2. Colourful Attire: Students dress up in traditional attire, donning colourful chaniya cholis for girls and dhotis or kurta pyjamas for boys. The dance floor comes alive with energetic and synchronised movements as participants whirl and twirl to the beats of traditional Gujarati folk music. The infectious energy and enthusiasm of the dancers create an electrifying atmosphere that is hard to resist.
  3. Various cultural activities: Students participate in singing competitions, skits, and fashion shows, showcasing their talents and creativity. These activities provide a platform for students to express themselves and celebrate their culture in a fun-filled manner.
  4. Food stalls: food stalls offering traditional Gujarati delicacies are set up during the festival, adding to the festive spirit. Students indulge in mouth-watering treats like dhokla, fafda, khandvi, and jalebi, which are synonymous with Navratri celebrations. The aroma of these delectable dishes fills the air, tempting everyone to savour the flavours of Gujarat.
  5. Aarti Ceremonies: Daily Aarti ceremonies were conducted, where students collectively offered prayers to Goddess Durga, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere.

Navratri Fest also serves as an opportunity for students to learn about the significance of this festival. Cultural exhibitions are organised to educate attendees about the various aspects of Navratri, including its mythological significance and rituals. This helps foster a sense of understanding and appreciation for the traditions and customs associated with the festival.

The Navratri festival in our college is not just a celebration; it is a reflection of our unity in diversity. It brings together students from different states and communities, creating a sense of camaraderie and harmony. It serves as a reminder that, despite our differences, we can come together to celebrate our shared cultural heritage.
