EEC Institute Journey For GRE Exam Preparation

I joined the EEC institute for my GRE preparation. I used the textbooks given by the institute along with Magoosh, Manhattan and Princeton textbooks.
I will be sharing a few resources that greatly helped me in my GRE preparation.

  • For vocabulary, complete Barron’s 333 High-Frequency GRE words. This is a must for vocabulary. Another resource is Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis. Try to complete the book and understand the meanings of as many words as you can. Memorize synonyms for each word as well; this will help you in the verbal and analytical writing sections. If you have time, try to refer to Barron’s 800 words as well.
  • For the Verbal Reasoning section, refer to books by Magoosh, Manhattan, and Princeton, and practice as many questions as you can. There are many other free resources available, so make sure to leverage them. For easy memorization, Magoosh offers flashcards for vocabulary to assist you.
  • For the Quantitative section, one needs to have a basic understanding of Mathematics and Aptitude, including simple interest, compound interest, profit-loss, cost price-selling price, work and time, geometry, algebra, probability, speed-distance, volume, and other basic mathematics topics. You can refer to any resources to brush up on these topics and then start practising questions from Manhattan and Magoosh books.
  • For the Analytical Writing section, understand the basic structure of an essay and refer to sample Analytical Writing Section essays available online. I used Manhattan for that. Write a few articles on your own by selecting a topic and comparing them with the samples provided in any of the above books. Using good vocabulary is a plus point for this section.

Preparing for the exam:

  • When you are ready with the preparation, appear for multiple mock tests. ETS offers 2 mock tests, and Magoosh, Princeton, and many others offer multiple free mock tests. Appear for as many tests as you can to become familiar with the GRE environment and the types of questions asked. GRE is a long, exhaustive exam, so it is paramount to become familiar with the exam environment and conditions you will face.
  • While appearing for the mock exams, pay close attention to the timer analyze the questions’ topics that consume the most time and try to practice them more. Even during the exam, it is very important to pay attention to the timer so that you can attempt every question within the time limits.
  • Every day, practice questions from the above books or any other books and analyze and learn from the mistakes. Repeat the same till you are confident!

Best of luck with your preparation!!
