Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Shahpur ( MCA ) Campus Experience

I am currently pursuing MCA from Central University of Himachal Pradesh. Overall the experience has been decent , although the university is more inclined towards Research and focusses less on placements.

About the campus:

In total there are three campuses of CU Himachal Pradesh – Dharamshala, Shahpur and Dehra. Since courses like MCA are taught in Shahpur campus, I would love to take you through the campus tour. Since it is a temporary block it consists of a single administrative cum academic block, a Library , badminton court, a football ground and a canteen. Most of the students prefer the canteen although it is pretty average.

First-Year Experience:

Since our admissions were delayed, the first two semesters were finished within a span of six months. Core subjects such as DSA ,OOPS,DAA,DBMS, OS were taught to us in the first year. Apart from academics cultural events take place on a regular basis , one of them being “HIMSPARK“.

Hackathons and Seminars : Due to the lesser number of students in MCA , there are no such internal hackathons conducted , although we were permitted to participate in the Smart India Hackathon 2023 unfortunately the problem statement was taken down due to unknown reasons. We also had a tech talk , organized by our faculty member in which a former Google employee, (currently Amazon) briefed us about the industry , on how to start from 0-1 , resume building and how to build connections.

Final-Year Experience

As soon as the third semester started we were asked to prepare our literature review and research proposal which was further evaluated at the end of the semester. Only three subjects were taught during this semester which included PHP.
At the start of fourth year we were given a choice of either a Final Year Project or Dissertation which holds 8 credits.

Overall the journey has been challenging , if you are someone who wants to go into research then this might be the place for you , apart from that , there are absolutely zero placement opportunities here.
