Academy of Technology(AOT), West Bengal Campus Experience of BTech CSBS

I guess all anime fans would know more about AOT. We all had the same concept when we realised the acronyms of our college. Earlier, when we searched for AOT we got the first link of Attack on Titans and not our college. That was the case with us. However, things changed now, and I am glad AOT is now known as the Academy of Technology also and not the anime name. Our college is situated in a rural area far away from the city which makes it the heart of the place. Because of this, we have a very beautiful campus full of gardens and trees and a lake at the centre of the college. The campus has different buildings for different branches and years from blocks A to E. We have luckily almost all the things which are needed in a college from the playground for each sport to the canteen, library to the temple of Shivaji. One of the best things I like about my college is that though being a private college it is open only five days a week. Sadly, we have an attendance criteria of 75% but it doesn’t matter much to me cause I like going to college.

The First year of engineering was one of the easiest years if I look back now. Though, initially it was a bit tough to understand what was going on, what to do and how to do it. But as time passes by, things become clear. Honestly speaking for me, I came to realize the four years of BTech in my first semester only. I am a sophomore here pursuing my BTech degree in Computer Science and Business Systems(CSBS). When I began my college journey I didn’t understand much about engineering like what am I supposed to do here. I was only focused on academics and a bit on coding because I liked it in my very first semester. As time passed by, I came to know that college is not just about academics and more than that like learning something new, honing your skills, doing things that you are interested in and a lot more. As the first semester ended, I came to know about ML and Data Science and started learning about it. It was tough initially but thanks to this college, I made the best friends anyone could hope for. They helped me in my professional as well as personal life as well. The teachers here are also very good and helpful. Most of the teachers are well educated and have earned great achievements in their field. Almost all colleges focus on academics, so aside from that, we recently have several clubs for different things for interested students like photography, music, filmmaking, arts, dance, sports and many more. One thing I forgot to mention, we have pride in our branch Student’s Chapter. Student’s Chapter is like a club or group of members from the same branch and we have SC for each branch. They conduct a lot of amazing events and workshops every time and many more.

Talking about the fest whether it’s cultural or Technical(Tech fest), luckily we have both even though it’s a private college. Our cultural fest is known as Arcadia. Here, the college calls for the amazing singer every time. Last year, we witnessed the one and only “Armaan Malik”. From KK to Sunidhi to Sonu Nigam, the college invites a special singer every year. It was full of joy and fun and we have heard his songs personally and fallen in the vibes of his beautiful songs. Our college conducted the Tech Fest (Techfiesta) after so many years. It was organized pretty well and had a lot of events included from powerful idea presentations to car racing. We also have a sports tournament of basketball, football and volleyball. I was so thrilled to watch those amazing games. Though our branch couldn’t win the winning cup in football they performed so well and gave their 200% and ended up as Runners.

Talking about the placement scenario, the placement here is decent but not many students grab a good package of 10 LPA. Most of the hiring companies are service-based like KPIT, cognizant, Wipro, TCS and other companies with a low package. Our college tries its best to give placement to deserving students whether they are from CSE or Mechanical. I’m boasting about myself or my department but based on what I have heard from my seniors in AOT Hostel, our dept. get a good chance of getting placed. So, maybe this is a plus point for us.
